Textile / Yarny Arts Round Up from CHA 2014 Mega Show

Think left and think right and think low and think high.  Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!  ~Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!

As usual, there was much to see in regards to the textile arts at the Craft and Hobby Association's trade show. I love the embroidery kits at Simplicity. They were witty and well designed.  Look carefully at the one featured above and you will see the embroidery itself is a bit messy.  Perfect! They also had these cute kits which had me drooling.

Embroidery is definitley making a come back (Yay!) and not just in the usual cross stitch manner.  Several company's were laser cutting wood shapes and adding holes for stitching.  This cute bird house display from Plaid features an emboridered tree.  The shapes were being shown as supplements to home decor, as charms for jewelry and as gift tags.  Great projects for beginners, including children. Imagine have a Christmas tree adorned with them!

Plaid's display is a cross stitched board easily obtainable.  I was inspired in terms of large scale art installations, but I think something like this for a store window would be brilliant.  Bright, cheerful and an eye draw.  Just call me "Little Miss Crafty!"

Textile jewelry was in force, an influence of the friendship bracelet poularity.  Sizzle is a nylon cord from Coats and Clark that is perfect for bracelets, but also great for knotting a dog collar or sash. Premiere Yarns was showing its fancy yarns being used to make jewelry and purses.  Talk about tassle earring bling!  The yarn also works up great as i-cord and made into necklace strands / ropes.

Lion Brand Yarn's fashion show was a fabulous as ever! Here's a seat at the show where the new design director and Vanna White are mc'ing.

There 7 Wonders of the Yarn World was a knock out!  Unbelievable!  I would love to be on this design team! The 7 wonders included Stonehenge, Easter Island, the Sphinx, Mayan ruins, Great Wall of China and Taj Mahal.
